[13032013] - Fuselage

Got to attach the wings and tail to something ....

13/03/2013 - Attaching the wind to the fuselage - Stage 1

So when I arrived at the factory the parts had been positioned ready for assembly

So the first job was to make sure that the fuselage was level both front to back and left to right using the centre section spar attach bulkhead.

Then with judicious use of a fork lift truck the first wing was slid into place.  Now that sounded simple but it wasn't.  Things to consider when doing the first wing

bullet

Lubricate the spar so its slips and slides easier

bullet

Get the angle just right for it to go in

bullet

Make sure the bottom skins don't snag and overlap one another

Using some shop 7/16 bolts, we made 2 that would act as drift pins to help the alignment.  Then we installed to 1/4 bolts and 2 7/16 bolts and freed up the drift pins for the second wing.

The second wing went on in minutes !! now we knew what we were doing.

There was sufficient enough time to play with he set up examining the wing incidence and sweep.

I still have a 1/4" out of alignment to solve for the sweep, which is to with the first wing rear spar not going in sufficiently.  The fault is to do with I have not rounded off the corners of the rear spar attach points at the top as they fowl on the wing skins.

So next time I will need to pull the wing out to free this attach point, conduct a little filing and push back in.  Then complete the setup and drill the rear spar.
